Upon administration, roflumilast and its active metabolite roflumilast N-oxide selectively and competitively bind to and inhibit PDE4, which leads to an increase of both intracellular levels of cyclic-3´, 5´-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and cAMP-mediated signaling.
